Hardworking Student Athletes

Hardworking Student Athletes

At the University of Mississippi there are a lot of hardworking students, but the ones that are extremely hardworking are the student athletes. They are the most hard working because they do so much, and barely get recognized for what they do. All student athletes are working hard year round not just on the courts, or fields, but mainly in the classrooms, working towards their degrees.
The student athletes are more thorough then ordinary students because they were given scholarship to play a sport but also to excel in the classrooms as well. Athletes do more than regular students, they don’t just have to play a sport and practice daily, they have to also keep their grades up to maintain their scholarship and to be able to compete. The hardest thing a student athlete has to do is to sustain their busy schedules. While other students are sleeping, partying or sleeping in class, student athletes are doing otherwise. Some are up early practicing or up late studying. The athletes’ schedules are always hectic, because they have to juggle at least 16- 18 hours of classes, game or practice and study hall. All must get study hall hours; it depends on how well you’re doing in class.
The place athletes can go to do work or study or get help with work is the Fed Ex student athlete academic support building. At the Fed Ex they also show the athletes how to manage time so they can know when and how to work on their class work.
When asked how hard is it to be a student athlete, and Lauren Hollingsworth member from the track team responded “It’s hard being a student athlete during the season because you miss so much time in school. Also the physical fatigue gets to you after practice which makes it hard to focus on your homework because all you can think about it sleep”. Whitney Hameth Womens basketball player also responded, “It’s hard balancing school, and practice. Also it gets stressful when you have so much on your plate during season”.
